프로콜 하럼이 부른 A Whiter Shade Of Pale 의 뒤를이어 프로그레시브락의 새지평을 연 작품으로
기억되는 무디블루스의 Nights in White Satin은 벅찬 경음악인 드보르작의 신세계 교양곡 9번 2악장을
팝에 도입하여 아름다운 화음을 들려주고있다.
머나먼 미지의 세계를 향하여 다가가는 아련한 추억이 마음속에서 솟아나는 느낌을 주는 명곡으로 여겨지고
알수없는 감정이 더해져서 미련을 갖게해주는 작품으로 태어난다.
이곡은 무디블루스의 멤버이자 보컬인 저스틴 헤이워드(Justin Hayward)가 19살에 작곡한 곡으로 아련한 짝사랑
의 환상과 깊은밤의 슬픔을 애절하게 표현하고있으며 런던심포니 오케스트라와의 협연을 통해서 익히 알고있는 For my lady와 Melancholy Man 으로 대표하는 무디블루스의 음악은 한편의 서사시같은 명곡을 계속 토해내고 있었다.
세계각국의 30여곡의 커버버젼이 출시되었지만 2008년에 호주출신 싱어송 라이터인 Tina Arena의 버젼이 유티크
하게 불렀다.

무디블루스의 음악을 듣고 있노라면 어느 환상의 섬을 다녀온것처럼 서정적이고 고전적인 아름다운 화음을 엮어내는 마술사 같은 느낌을 받는다.
70년<A Question of Balance>에 발표한 melancholy man 은 마이크 파인더가 작곡한 곡으로 무디블루스의 여섯번째 앨범인 동시에 한국에서도 크게 히트한 바 있다.
무디블루스의 곡은 한곡 한곡이 마치 심포니 팝의 알토란을 보는듯 하고 깊숙한곳에 슬픔과 외로움과 때로는 장엄함이 묻어나는 음악을 들려주고있다.
